On the 3rd of December a few crazy dudes headed out to the Bundegi salt flats along with Birds Eye View Flight School founder and microlight pilot Gavin Penfold to attempt the first hang glider towing at the North West Cape. Conditions were favourable with some southerly winds blowing straight up the ‘runway’. The crew had a great time and managed to hit 400 metres, but the lack of thermals didn’t keep them up in the air for very long. Still, enough to keep them buzzin’ and enjoying the fantastic weather leading up to summer here at Ningaloo Reef. A couple of guys who have never touched a glider before went for a ‘test-flight’ a few feet of the ground while being pulled by three blokes running down the runway with the towing rope – what a joy. Everyone had a great time and so did I while photographing this event which seems to have kicked off the hang glider scene around North West Cape in Western Australia.
